WHAT IS MEDITATION?
There are many types of meditation. The one definition that fits almost all forms of meditation is “consciously directing your attention to alter your state of consciousness.”
There’s no limit to the things you can direct your attention toward…symbols, sounds, colors, breath, uplifting thoughts, mantras, spiritual realms, etc. Meditation is simply about attention, where you direct it and how it alters your consciousness or awareness.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF MEDITATION?
Traditionally meditation was (and still is) used for spiritual growth. Meditation helps the meditator become more conscious, with the unfolding of inner Light, Love & Wisdom; growing more aware of the guiding Presence in our lives; and, accelerating our journey to our True Self..our Spirit.
More recently, meditation has become a valuable tool for finding a peaceful oasis of relaxation and stress relief in a demanding, fast-paced world.
This is a rush-rush world. Sometimes we need to slow down and take a look at how we’re doing our lives. Meditation brings you into a peaceful, tranquil state in your heart. It helps you look at life through calm eyes, which is very important as it can alleviate fear and reduce anxiety. Regular meditation can also help one gain a higher perspective, a higher understanding of what’s happening in our lives that shifts you from a survival view to a more open and expanded view, where all things are possible. I’ve experienced better focus and clearer thinking. Somewhere in this process, you activate your self-healing by slowing down the beating of the heart, reducing the stress hormones and support your body moving to balance.
Meditation brings us closer to the divine, nature, love, God or whatever word works for you. When we feel that closeness during meditation, we move out of feelings of isolation or separation. The more connected to love and the divine, you’ll notice that a powerful nurturing energy flows. The more our energy flows, the healthier we are.
